Hello from the Berkshire Mountains in western Massachusetts, USA. I am looking at pictures that tug at my innermost heartstrings. I have been a teacher my whole life and always wanted to go across the great ponds of the earth to do teaching/missionary type work…. i had a personal friendship with a holy Dutchman who was in India in the 1940′s through the 1960′s and now knowing that Julia is with you for this summer as a teacher, well,….my heart pops that she and you are so blessed…..peace to all of you.

Hello to the lot at Gyanankur!
It is the existence of places like yours that makes the world a beautiful place despite all the suffering that is present around us. Keep at it!
    My warmest well-wishes to everyone.

  36. Matthew Apr 3rd 2009

I really appriciate that you have been so caring & thoughtful about the underprivilaged children and I am completely with you all..

however knowing that most children in schools are of such backgrounds, do you think that middle class or elite parents would prefer their children to be among these company.. I mean what motivation do you offer from your end to them (apart from they themselves being socially active and thoughtful like you) honestly they are just a few…

Please dont get me wrong.. my concern is mainly for parents whose children for example had studied in a higher school in different environment, why would they shift their children to this school?

It is so encouraging to know that one of India’s biggest problems is being tackled so well.
May the Lord cause many to emulate your example to the blessing of this generation … and on. We will be watching and copying wherever we can in our situation in our school and Girls’ Home in Kollegal, Karnataka.

What an inspiration and challenge! The task you have undertaken, both in the actual school project, as well as the philosophical/pedagogical concepts are so vital for the maturity of the student that your work must multiply. I look forward to knowing you and someday getting to see your work in person. May your vision be shared with thousands of others.

what measures school is taking for swin flu outbreak in pune.As kids are more vonerable towards flu,can school authority brief us about that.

  45. Melinda Parker Aug 31st 2009

We are following the protocol recomended by the school officials. We ask parents not to send any child with any symptom of swine flu, even our van and bus drivers check the children but each teacher checks each child at the start of the day and calls the parents if the child has any symptoms to take the child home. We have fumigated the Kharadi school and we have installed taps and water in Gyanankur kesnand having just received a timely donation from ANZBAI and so in both schools all children are supervised with washing hands with dettol soap . We have communicated to all that 15 seconds is the required time for healthy handwashing. Our aunties and bhais are wiping all areas that are touched a lot like desk tops and door handles with disinfectant each day.
All parents have been told if they are worried it is all right not to send their children and primary teachers are supplying homework to do at home. Coughing ettiquette (covering mouth when coughing is being taught to the children. Our social workers have also visited the homes of the most vulnerable who live in smaller spaces to make sure they are aware of what precautions to take. if you have any further suggestions do let us know. Thanks. Melinda

  46. usn(pune) Sep 14th 2009

  47. Melinda Parker Sep 14th 2009

Dear parents, Our website was set up primarily for fundraising and exposure as most of our parents dont use the internet. However as some of you do here is an update on the Kharadi school and I will try to set up a notices section specifically for parents.

At Kharadi school in LKGC and D one child has been found to have Swine flu. These two classes as they share the same room will be closed until the 18th Sept. We are closing the school tomorrow…Tuesday 15th Sept to fumigate the school. We remind all parents again not to send your child to school if they have any cold/fever/runny nose/cough or other symptoms of flu. Our van drivers and teachers are checking every child each morning and if you get a call to pick your child up please cooperate immediately.
    Thanks.
PS.There is a screening centre in Kharadi (behind Rakshak nagar Phase 1 , Anusaya Park ) there is a swine flu OPD. The timings are morning 9 to 12 and afternoon 3 to 5pm. If you have any doubt please attend that centre.

    hi suzana,

thanks for introducing me to the school. I am very impressed by the vision and the ideas presented on the website. I look forward to working with you on two elements; execution and financing as both are critical to making this beautiful vision come true.

“full many a flower is born to blush unseen, and waste its sweetness on the desert air” (thomas grey elegy written in a country church yard). i hope that we can ensure that as few flowers as possible blush unseen and waste their sweetness! By providing amongst other things great quality and intelligently constructed education i think we can avoid such a fate.

    thanks

  56. Suzana May 12th 2010

    dear Ruby,
the plan is for a new building just for us across the road next to the other PDEA buildings. We have not decided about X or X!! but will soon. We do have to manage this year on the ground floor until next June. We think we can do it fairly well . Our goal is to keep a low cost but high quality model but we try to work on the essence of quality even tho we dont have a lot of space. we have great teachers and spend time investing in them as the key to our model. Thanks for your encouragement. Any constrcutive feedback or any help is welcome. I am sorry this took awhile to answer but still in the process of working out the best solution.
    Melinda

  72. kamlesh devdhar Apr 27th 2011

Is the school shifting in new premises?

  73. Suzana Apr 27th 2011

The Eon Gyanankur school is to have a new building by June 2012 We have to manage one more year in the current building. PDEA are planning to build the new building across the road where there is empty land beside the current PDEA college.

  74. sadashiv Tulpule Jun 15th 2011

    Madam,
As u said the new building work in not commenced, how will it get completed in next year June?

  75. Suzana Jul 6th 2011

Please note this website is not a a specifically Eon Gyanankur schools’ website but a broader NGO which owns the village school and does not own Eon Gyanankur but merely helps with teacher training etc. As Eon Gyanankur school has come fully under PDEA maybe we should set up another website. However most of our parents dont speak english or have email contact so …. those few parents who do can send direct emails to gyanankur@gmail.com until a proper school email is set up…..and they will be addressed forthwith. The applicatoin for broad band has been put in this week.

Also note there are notices up on the board with timings to meet teachers and the headmistress and all aprents are welcome to set up a meeting. A number of parents have met the HM according to the schedule given.
